Tennis festival for everyone at the Berlin Tennis Open 2025

Exactly 129 days from now, world-class women’s tennis will return to Berlin. From June 14 to 22, 2025, 28 singles players in the main draw and 16 doubles teams will compete at the BERLIN TENNIS OPEN for WTA ranking points and a record prize money of 1.1 million USD.

The organisers of this prestigious WTA 500-category tournament, the agencies Perfect Match and AK Management, have big plans for the event at the LTTC “Rot-Weiß” Berlin facility. One of the highlights is their five-year location guarantee: The tennis spectacle is set to take place at the Steffi-Graf-Stadion and its surroundings until 2029, the year of the tournament's 50th anniversary. The Berlin Tennis Open, which is sure to ignite much anticipation for Wimbledon, will make a big impact right from the first year under new leadership.

Andrea Petkovic to Become Director of Excitement at the BERLIN TENNIS OPENOne of the key highlights is the appointment of Andrea Petkovic. The former top-10 player and seven-time WTA tournament winner will take on the newly created role of Director of Excitement and help ignite new enthusiasm for the Berlin Tennis Open. Having retired from professional tennis in 2022, Andrea will not only promote the tournament but also stir emotions among players, sponsors, and the audience. With over 1,000 professional matches under her belt, Andrea has gained exceptional expertise, which she now uses in her second career as a TV host, pundit, and author. She engages millions of viewers with her sharp analyses on television and has also shared the court with many top players.

Perfect Match founder Markus Günthardt said: “We are very excited about working with Andrea Petkovic. She will support us in many areas, but also challenge us and contribute to making the Berlin Tennis Open even better. We deliberately decided not to appoint her just as a tournament ambassador. We have a new concept and want to attract a younger audience as well. As Director of Excitement, Andrea will be able to get even more involved and stir things up – just like she did on court recently.”

World Number 1 Aryna Sabalenka to Compete in BerlinThe WTA 500 tournament in Berlin guarantees a world-class player field at the Steffi-Graf-Stadion, as it takes place just two weeks before Wimbledon, marking the intense final phase of preparation for the world’s best players for the legendary Grand Slam at Church Road. And here's another major announcement: Aryna Sabalenka, the World No. 1 and three-time Grand Slam winner, has confirmed her participation in the Berlin Tennis Open 2025. Sabalenka, who was recently a finalist at the Australian Open, where she lost to American Madison Keys, will surely be one of the top favourites at the tournament in Berlin in June, as well as at Wimbledon two weeks later, with her powerful style of play.

Eva Lys Aims to Repeat her Australian Open SurpriseAt the Australian Open, Hamburg's Eva “Lucky” Lys made waves worldwide, particularly in Germany, when, as a lucky loser, she fought her way to the Round of 16, where she was eventually defeated by World No. 2 Iga Świątek. No lucky loser had ever reached this stage in Australia before. Thanks to this unexpected success, Eva Lys broke into the Top 100 of the WTA rankings for the first time in her career.

Markus Zoecke Appointed Tournament DirectorWith Berlin native Markus Zoecke, a former professional and experienced tennis manager, taking on the role of Tournament Director, the tournament is in great hands. Zoecke, who has been involved in the organisation of the Berlin women’s tennis tournament for years, knows the grounds of his home club, LTTC “Rot-Weiß” Berlin, as well as the inside of his tennis bag. He played in all junior teams and later in the Bundesliga for “Rot-Weiß,” became German champion, and was a member of the German Davis Cup team. His highest career ATP ranking was 48th in 1992. As Tournament Director, Markus Zoecke will oversee the smooth running of the Berlin Tennis Open, along with many other responsibilities.
